New Employees at Transportation Services

DPI is pleased to announce the addition of two new employees to the transportation services family - Robert Taylor and Wanda Simmons.

Robert Taylor joined DPI in September as a Transportation Consultant responsible for the 29 counties in the central region. He had previously worked in the Guilford County transportation department for almost 18 years in the following roles; Fuel & tire truck driver, M2 shop mechanic, M3 bay leader, route mechanic, assistant shop foreman, and ended up as Shop foreman. Previously he worked at an independent repair shop working on all types of vehicles. Robert has spent his entire life in the High Point area. He has been married to his beautiful wife Terri for over 33 years. He has a son and two grandchildren, Payton & Baily. Robert and his wife have raised Lhasa Apso’s for the past 29 years. His current two dogs, Barnaby and Gabreilla, “rule the household” according to Robert. His hobbies include Golf and restoring old cars. He is currently building a 1923 Ford T-Bucket which will be making LEA appearances in the spring of 2013. Robert is also handy in all forms of home repairs and maintenance and claims to be able to “build a house from the ground up”.  

  Wanda Simmons joined DPI in October 2012 as the new Administrative Assistant. She transferred from the Wildlife Resources Commission. There, she worked in the Division of Conservation Education working with the Wildlife in North Carolina magazine. In addition, she worked with the Division of Engineering Services where the division is responsible for the planning, building, and renovating boat ramps. She has approximately 15 years of service with North Carolina state government in the areas of procurement, budget, customer service, and various other tasks. She spent her entire life in North Carolina. Prior to her state government career, she served in the United States Army as a Military Police officer. She has been married to her husband Michael for 15 years. They have 4 kids, a dog, and a guinea pig! She loves spending time with her family and listening to music as her hobbies.
